    Hiking Rattlesnake Island

Out in the middle of Lake Winnipesauekee is a mid-sized island that goes by the name of Rattlesnake. It has a couple of humped peaks that resembles more of the humps on a camel or dragon than a rattlesnake. The middle is protected by the Lakes Region Conservation Trust of which we are members, and there is a special dock that the members can tie up to (limit of three hours) on the island and go hike it. Today we decided to take on that task since the day was too cool for just hanging out on the boat and the fall colors are nearing the peak and made for…

    Adventures of Carl

Quick update on the new dog… Carl. He has been a very good, albeit rambunctious dog, or should I say puppy. Of course he is a 90 lb puppy, so sometimes you forget he is still young and still lacks basic coordination making him jump and go for a ball one laughable moment after another. His front feet have a tendency of moving quicker than his back on the turns. He’s getting better and more coordinated by the day and runs into things less and less now. He loves his walks And checking out the upcoming halloween displays the neighbors are putting out He has even been to the high…

Last Swimming Weather of the Year

Decided to sneak out on a Saturday Evening to get out on the lake and enjoy what might be some of the last warm weather of the year. The water was still warm enough to swim. The kind of water that was cold when you first touch it, but your body becomes used to it and eventually it feels warm. That was this night. We anchored out around Fish island and I was able to do a little fishing – Not one bite sadly. Eventually we relaxed with a couple of drinks And sat back and watched the sunset As the temperature dropped, we would don our sweatshirts and enjoy…

    Another Lake Evening Sunset

Evenings on the lake are some of the most enjoyable times. The lake becomes quiet. All the boaters go in, the renters head in for 5 o’clock supper, the people who trailered in the boats need to go home… The waves die down to a whisper along with any wind. You can count on one hand the number of boats left out there. Tons of privacy, quiet, and relaxation as you just float in the broads, maybe jump in the water, have a glass of wine, and just watch the sun set. There is always time for me to have a cigar on the boat. I’ve really taken to watching…

    Cape Cod Trip – Nausset

Took a weekend to visit some old neighbors who now live down on Cape Cod. Was an enjoyable weekend. The trip down was plagued by traffic accidents, jams, and all around traffic issues that tacked on an extra hour and a half (at least) to our trip. Stop and go traffic is never fun and the fine folks of Massachusetts seems to make it worse with their lack of driving abilities. But eventually we made it. The friends had a special jeep all set up with lower air pressure in the tires so we could drive onto the beach. We didn’t stay, just decided to check out the place and…
