    Enjoying Your Local Rail Trails

The old local rails are all gone.  With their demise they’ve left behind a perfectly graded and nearly straight path that cuts through the landside that town after town have been either paving over or packing down allowing for a great resource for running, walking, biking, etc. My town is no different.  While our rail is short and currently doesn’t lead very far (they’re working on it!) it is still a great resource and I’ve started enjoying it more and more. I’ve run into walkers, joggers, bikers, folks walking their dog.  I’ve done the latter myself.  There’s a great bridge a mile down the trail where you can go down…

    Memorial Day Weekend Hike

Sunday the family decided it would be a good day to go for a hike.  By family I mean my wife.  I’m up for about anything and our daughter, well, she allows us to drag her along.  It started with a sour face but got better as the hike went on. Today we decided to hike up Belknap mountain. It is rated an Easy hike by the Family Hike page found here:  http://nhfamilyhikes.com/hikes.php?hike=Belknap%20Mountain But I call BS on that.   Is the trail challenging?  No.  I’ve been on hikes where I need both hands and feet.  This was a nice trail but the trail was straight up!  I was wiped out by…

Padron 80th and a Juicy Ass?

Friday night, Memorial Day weekend, and a long hard week it was time to sit around the fire pit and have my ritual cigar and beer. The cigar is a Padron 80th Anniversay. Yeah, I went all out this Friday. The cigar is a favorite of mine. It is quite a strong cigar – not for first time smokers or even season cigar aficionados on an empty stomach! Very smooth, and very little spice on the palate. Highly recommended though. I accompanied it with a new to me beer called Juicy Ass. Juicy Ass is a Canadian craft brew produced by Flying Monkeys. Here is the back describing this particular…

Paintball in New York – A.P.E.

Last weekend I made a pilgrimage to Albany Paintball Experience (aka APE) in New York.  There was a fairly large event for stock class paintball that was hosted there, filled with quality (both in playing and personalities) people who I like to be around.  There was also a raffle to raise money for another paintballing friend who was going through stage 4 cancer.  Almost $4000 was raised.  All in all a great showing.   I took the scenic route to get out there, over the “hog back” on route 9 in Vermont.  I prefer that way over I90 due to the stops I can make and the views such as…

Cold Nights, Fire, and Cohiba Maduro 5

My wife and I recently purchased a new fire pit and we’ve been having and almost nightly habit of collecting deadwood around our house and lot and having a nice warm fire to sit by while the spring nights are still cold. Since tonight is Friday I decided to pull out a cigar. Tonight’s choice is a Cohiba maduro number five. It’s not a very large cigar. It’s the type of cigar you would have when you realize you only have 20 minutes to enjoy it. It’s the perfect size for that. It is a good cigar, but I have a hard time calling it a great cigar. Also the…
