Cold Nights, Fire, and Cohiba Maduro 5

My wife and I recently purchased a new fire pit and we’ve been having and almost nightly habit of collecting deadwood around our house and lot and having a nice warm fire to sit by while the spring nights are still cold. Since tonight is Friday I decided to pull out a cigar. Tonight’s choice is a Cohiba maduro number five. It’s not a very large cigar. It’s the type of cigar you would have when you realize you only have 20 minutes to enjoy it. It’s the perfect size for that. It is a good cigar, but I have a hard time calling it a great cigar. Also the…

Rocky Patel – Sun Grown Maduro Toro Review

I have been wanting to try this cigar for quite some time now. It has been in my humidor staring back at me for the past six months, but the time was never right and it had not aged long enough. I like my cigars to sit at least for a little while after my purchase. It’s not that I am a snob, but I know my humidity is correct and win a cigar sits for at least six months under my protection I know it is going to be prime condition for smoking. It was time for this cigar to show me what it was made of. A long…

State of the Union Cigar – Arturo Fuente Anejo Review

Decided to watch the State of the Union out in my smoking shed, with a new batch of cigars that came in. I had a box of Arturo Fuente Anejo cigars – Torpedos. I have a love for the torpedos because I can easily control the flow by how I cut the end. A small snip, or a larger cut. I started with a smaller snip in the back as I always do, but the draw will a little harder than I prefer, so I opened it up a bit more and the draw was perfect. The cigar was extremely smooth for a medium to full bodied cigar. More medium…

    Lotus Cigar Lighter

I had misplaced my normal cigar lighter and was in the market for a new one. I wanted one that was going to stay in my smoking shed, so I was ok with going larger. I found exactly what I was looking for in this Lotus Cigar lighter. It’s big! The first thing I noticed when I opened up the top is a large 4 jet burner for lighting cigars. Flip out the bottom and you have a two different sized hole punch for cigars But there’s more than that… On the side is a very sharp cutter So it cuts cigars in multiple different ways, it lights with ease,…

    Cigars

One of my enjoyments is heading out and having a cigar in my cigar shack out back. I’ll bring out a beer, a cigar – back up cigar – turn on the heater in winter, turn on the air filter and sit back and watch Vimeo while enjoying (usually) a cigar. Tonight we gave the Dunbarton Tobacco and Trust Umbagog cigar a try. It’s a small boutique tobacco company run by the former head of Drew Estate cigars Steve Saka. The cigar itself is well built and very dark. Smells of hay and a sweetness I just couldn’t place. I was excited to light this up. To my dismay the…
