    First Hike Since Knee Surgery

Finally felt good enough to brave a small hike up Lockes Hill in Gilford, NH. Felt a little weak on the way back down but that was due to the lack of use and exertion, not because the knee was bad. Felt fine the next day. Just need to do more stretching and balance exercises most likely. Even took Carl up to the top as he was up for the task also! With some more exercise I hope to be off to battle larger hills in the future and then back to the mountains. I still have the Ossipee Mountain Range to finish!

    Late Fall Uncanoonuc Hike

Was a nice brisk fall day and a perfect day for a walk/hike. Overall 4.5 miles round trip, we parked at Brown’s corner and took the Scribner trail, what I call the long way, up the North Mountain of Uncanoonuc. This was the longest walk we have ever taken Carl. I brought some extra water for him, his travel bowl, and a few other items for us in case we got cold. Snapped a few photos at top, but not much else: We didn’t see a soul all the way up but once on top, a few groups started showing up. Even assisted in taking some photos of them. Carl…

    Hiking Rattlesnake Island

Out in the middle of Lake Winnipesauekee is a mid-sized island that goes by the name of Rattlesnake. It has a couple of humped peaks that resembles more of the humps on a camel or dragon than a rattlesnake. The middle is protected by the Lakes Region Conservation Trust of which we are members, and there is a special dock that the members can tie up to (limit of three hours) on the island and go hike it. Today we decided to take on that task since the day was too cool for just hanging out on the boat and the fall colors are nearing the peak and made for…

Show Shoeing on a Trail Hike

Had such fun yesterday going on a trail hike and blazing some trails with our snow shoes. Snow shoeing? Shoeing? Too many vowels in a row if you ask me, but I’ll go with it. But first, the snow shoes! Picked these up last year off of REI and they worked great at breaking the trail for the Mrs. I loaded up a small back pack with some home made hot chocolate, extra hats, gloves, and we hit the trail. My pack also carried poles at the ready but never needed to use them. Wasn’t sure what I needed so I over packed a little bit for our 2 1/2…

Early Winter Trail Hike with Pooch

Sometime last this past spring we had an odd snow day where I took my old dog out for one last (most likely) hike in the snow. We took it real slow and the two miles took over an hour. Since then she has had surgery and gotten older. It snowed again here and I did not want to waste the opportunity. She loves the trail, she loves the walk, and even if her old bones were not willing to take her all the way, I was willing to carry her if needed. It was never needed. You can still see the shaved area from her spleen removal surgery. She…
